Sarah Okello

Sarah Okello is a Ugandan Canadian Artist who is inspired by what’s behind the obvious and the vulnerabilities of being human. She is a thought-provoking artist who is inspired by what’s behind the obvious and the vulnerabilities of being human. She sees all the little details and magnifies them in her work. Her pieces “Roll and Coast” and “What a Force” are about creating a larger perspective and feeling the emotions as they roll at any degree of force. Sarah believes that “Having the freedom to create and be trusted to create is a beautiful start, but you really get going when you trust yourself. That felt more and more factual as I continued to work on the project.”

Reflecting on her project and the opportunity to exhibit her work at a large scale in the TTC, Sarah shares that a challenge she faced was the scale of the work. “It is one of the biggest projects I've worked on where my images are going to be bigger than any print I've ever exhibited. It's such a new experience to envision my piece at a large scale, so keeping that in mind while creating was a beautiful challenge.” With that perseverance, she expresses her excitement for this project: “I'm looking forward to seeing all the other artists’ creations. It feels really good to be in the company of others who are sharing their work on a large scale. I'm also looking forward to tying in the panel work with the program I'm creating so that the kids who are in the program can have the visual experience of seeing what's possible with their art.”
